Reading with music

Duration about 90 minutes

An extract from novel by Patricia Highsmith ‘The Cry of the Owl, read by Renate Fuhrmann (actress, Cologne).

Compositions by the duo ‘KontraSax’ with Christina Fuchs (soprano saxophone, bass clarinet) and Romy Herzberg (contrabass).

Highsmith’s prose is marked by a subtle tension that draws the reader into a protagonist’s psyche and develops sympathies or antipathies. In her atypical thrillers it is difficult to distinguish between good and evil. The music by KontraSax plays off of this subtle tension, supports it emotionally, and helps inspire the listener’s fantasies.

An entertaining encounter between music and literature!
